Cecilia Kang
Remembering Rayne Goth
Partner to Rayne Goth ; mother of Robyn Kang
After living in the big city and having her heart broken, Cecilia decided to ditch everything she knew for a small garden plot and some chickens. Unfortunately, that didn't work out for her either, as the local Creature Keeper took a liking to her that he just couldn't let go of. After accepting that the move from San Myshuno to Henford-on-Bagley was not necessarily a good idea, Cecilia traded in her chickens for a few dogs and headed for the slightly-more-civilized Brindleton Bay.
Her life in Brindleton Bay was quiet and simple. After a year or so in the quiet community, she met local teacher Rayne Goth. Although he was a bit older than her usual dating pool, Cecilia was charmed by his vast knowledge of film theory and his expertise in all things psychedelic. She never imagined herself as part of a big family, but as she fell in love with Rayne she found herself falling in love with his daughters too. And, just like that, non-committal Cecilia found herself moving in with the Goth-Keller-Hollow clan.
Rayne was not a perfect lover, but they had a good life together. Cecilia was not much older than his daughters Sinn and Blakeley, and as such, she grew incredibly close to them. Tragically, Sinn passed away just as she reached young adulthood, and their family unit was never the same. Blakeley moved out not long after Sinn died, and Rayne relapsed into drug usage. He became more and more distant until one day, he just disappeared.
For years, Cecilia was left alone in Rayne's family home, wondering what she had done to cause him to leave her so cruelly. She wrote letters to Blakeley and kept to herself, eventually accepting that Rayne was never coming back, and his entire family had cut her off.
Or had they? Out of the blue, Cecilia received a call from Rayne. He sounded exhausted and aged, but like himself. He said he had been living in Strangerville with an eccentric wealthy magic practitioner. He asked her to come meet her at the manor, offering booze, drugs, and reconciliation. Confused and conflicted, but mostly concerned by Rayne's strange behavior, Cecilia left for Strangerville immediately. She has very little memory of the night she spent there, but in the coming days she found herself pregnant.
Cecilia gave birth to a vampire daughter, Robyn, whom she raised in Rayne's family home. The years passed quite normally, as Cecilia aged and tried to forget about that surreal night in Strangerville. But she could not stop dreaming about Rayne and poor Blakeley, who had never responded to any of the letters. She hoped that Blakeley had managed to build a good life for her boys, just as she had managed to do with Robyn.
Soon, she would learn that her hopes had come true, although Blakeley had gone through hell and back to get to that point. When Robyn was a teen and Cecilia's hair first began graying, she was reunited with the girl who had left their home so many years ago. Blakeley was an adult herself now, and more shockingly, she was a ghost. She had succumbed to mental illness just as her sister Sinn had, leaving her young sons to be taken in by the evil Papa Legba. But, by some miracle, Blakeley was back among the living, reunited with her sons.
Blakeley and Cecilia became close again as if no time had passed. They bonded over their shared history and grief over Rayne, and they empathized with the trauma that each had endured in the years since they'd lived together as family. They agreed to raise their kids as close-knit cousins, and to do what they could to undo the harm that Papa Legba had done to their family. Together, they founded Remembering Rayne Goth, an organization that is still run by their family to this day.
